What is WIC?

The Women, Infants and Children Program safeguards the health of low-income women, infants and children up to age 5 who are at a nutrition risk by providing nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care.
Who is eligible for WIC?

You are eligible if you:

  • Live in Nebraska
  • Are a pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding women, an infant or child under 5 years of age
  • Have a nutritional risk
  • And have a gross household income that is less than or equal to the income guidelines.  Click here to see the 2007 guidelines.
How does WIC work?

The WIC staff is a caring team of exerts who provide

  • couseling on how to use WIC foods to improve health
  • checks to buy foods that help keep you healthy and strong
  • immunization screening and referrals
  • discussion on food shopping, recipes, taking care of babies and how to breastfeed
  • information on good eating during pregnancy and breastfeeding and how to feed your child
  • referrals to doctors, health centers and clinics, dentists and programs like Food Stamps, ADF and Medicaid
